After more than five decades in fashion, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the @cfda. I marvel at just how open, diverse and inclusive our industry has strived to become. And as is true with so many women designers, my work represents a highly intimate reflection of my own artistic impulses and personal physicality that has thus far continued, for better or worse, to evolve. As an ex competitive figure skater and ballet dancer, line has always been tantamount to my aesthetic, as is detail, and a decided tension between soft and structure, sporty and romantic, and frequently an exaggerated play on proportions. Perhaps I do envision the world in black and white, as both create powerful statements without distraction... but color too can punctuate certain fashion moments with different emotions. My boyshorts and shrunken tee feel like a modern way to wear a silk faille couture neckpiece for evening... The Yin/Yang balance I so adore after a lifetime of creating gowns. The exaggerated volume superimposed over the tee serves as a strong counterpoint to the emphasis on thigh highs and a shorter silhouette. The voluminous white silk faille cape is for me the ultimate accessory that creates a sense of drama in a minimalist. Modern and mysterious way. #VeraWang #CFDAAT60
