It might feel like things are moving backward right now, but it's important to not lose hope. Resistance comes in many forms, where even small acts of kindness and acceptance can make a difference.⁠ ⁠ As Filipinos, our ancestors regarded queer individuals as babaylans, who were esteemed for their spiritual wisdom, leadership, and healing abilities. While babaylan leaders and traditions still exist in indigenous tribes, they are less prevalent in the modern world. However the babaylan exists within us as we carry their spirit through our acts of activism, empowerment, and healing.⁠ ⁠ We felt that sapin-sapin was such a fitting choice for our recipe blog to uplift our LGBTQ+ communities.
