The Links, Inc. is an international women’s service organization. Its national chapter was established in 1946 by Margaret Rosell Hawkins and Sarah Strickland Scott. It grew to become one of the most prestigious associations of Black women in the world. The New Orleans Chapter of The Links, Inc. was chartered on November 23, 1957. It was the first chapter in the state of Louisiana and its original fourteen members shared the vision of the national organization’s commitment to educational, civic, and intercultural activities. The main areas of focus for the New Orleans chapter were: education and youth activities, health and wellness issues affecting the African American community, fostering an appreciation of the arts, and collaborating with other Link chapters to provide services and assistance to global entities, particularly those in Africa and the Caribbean. The officers of the 1957 New Orleans chapter were President Anne W. Teabeau, Vice President Violet K. Richards, Recording Secretary Daisy F. Young, Corresponding Secretary Naomi G. Green, and Treasurer Eudora A. Haydel.
