150k miles and rollin. This 1987 #MercedesBenz #560SL used to belong to my grandfather Mario. When he gave it to me in 2010 the car was unreliable, the dash was cracked, seats torn, old tires, check engine light blaring and nothing seemed to work right. I remember his expression as he handed over the pink slip, a smile that simply translated to “she’s your problem now”. Over the next couple of years the car in that condition would leave me stuck in intersections, overheating on side of the road, and with plenty of steering/ transmission issues doing my part in keeping AAA tow companies in business . At some point I just had to throw in the towel, begrudgingly parking it for the better part of 8 years with the goal to get her back onto the road. I needed something reliable, even if it were just a Sunday car. A few years ago I started to put that goal into motion, with the intent of showing my grandpa what I could do. With a fully reupholstered interior, new dash, plenty of engine work, some fresh 19’s, and an Alpine sound system mounted behind the seats, she finally feels ready to show. Unfortunately my grandfather passed, and I was never able to show him just how pretty this little thing could look again. Every added mile in this car is dedicated to my grandfather; every time I turn it over I remember the first time I sat in it with him, and I swear it even still smells like him.
