My mom, Nancy, has persevered through the most challenging of times. Where most would have crumbled, she found her strength and purpose in motherhood and helping other moms. When I was young, my family faced two tragedies - the loss of my little brother Kevin due to a life threatening birth defect and the loss of my father. My mother found herself a widow and single mother to me. She managed to continue working full time at Johnson & Johnson as well as built a corporate fundraising team to support March of Dimes, in hopes that other families wouldn't have to experience our same loss. Today I carry on her legacy at J&J and the March of Dimes where I've been leading the fundraising team since her retirement. My mom has been my rock, my true north and safe place to land my entire life. No matter what she was going through in her life, she made sure I felt safe and taken care of. While my childhood was colored with tragedy, my mother made sure it was always filled with even more fond memories. Through single parenthood, a demanding career, a years long battle with breast cancer and her unwavering commitment to her charitable endeavors, my mom raised me to be a strong woman - just like her. Today I'm a new mom to my first child, named Sloane Quinn (her middle name is in honor of my mother). I can't remember ever seeing my mother happier than I have these last 5 months with Sloane. I can only hope that I can instill in Sloane the same strength and compassion for helping others that my mother did for me.
