@vans hooked it up and attendees to my free art workshops at the @usopenofsurf printed 140 reusable tote bags and 60 cyanotype bandanas using marine debris and random plastic objects last week! . I’ve made a lot of cyanotypes over the years, but it’s a pretty tricky process to perform on the beach with no water/power, an inexperienced audience, and having to yell over freeform punk bands jamming 50ft away. Thankfully the legend @michaelchsiung helped manage the chaos and @benjoweber @alex___weber @casadepulga @gwenwodark @missmctavish @gavinmpark and others helped rinse and dry the prints. Stoked on how they came out and thinking about how to streamline the operation further. . I was more confident going into the tote bag printing activity since we’ve pulled that one off in lots of schools with @sustainablecoastlineshawaii and @kokuahawaiifoundation and at the Pipemasters back in 2019. Thank you to everybody who gave me their old Vans classics! Your shoe prints came out sick!! Props to my big little cousin @john.estess senior volunteer intern @nilsgungor and again to @michaelchsiung (check out his art!). . One thing that worked well for both workshops was that we gave people gloves to do a beach cleanup for 15-20 minutes while we hustled to rinse/dry the prints... they came back with hands full of plastic trash and walked away with a sweet custom-printed reward! . Thanks to @vans @vanssurf @justin__villano and the whole Vans Family for bringing me into the mix! Gonna sleep for a couple days now to recover!
