At the closing of Episode III, @themindfulmaya opens up about the messages she grew up with….both the ones spoken and the ones she absorbed without anyone ever saying a word.
Messages that taught her that, as a Black woman, her place was in service. To serve her family, her community, and anyone who needed something from her.
So many of us grow up with that same script: watching the women around us always doing, always holding, always giving; expected to fix everything and carry it all.
But Maya shared that motherhood placed a mirror in front of her. And in that reflection, she realized that if she didn’t tend to herself, she would have nothing left to offer…..not to her children, not to her partner, not even to herself.
Rest isn’t something you squeeze in once everyone else’s needs are met.
It’s vital.
It’s necessary.
It’s a non-negotiable part of showing up whole.
If nothing else, make sure you get your REST!
