#LMCCAlumni Eiko Otake has been nominated for a 2022 Bessie Award for Outstanding Choreographer/Creator for “The Duet Project: Distance Is Malleable”!
“The Duet Project” had its New York premiere this past spring at NYU Skirball (@nyuskirball) from April 15–17. One of the four artists with whom Eiko appears on the stage is the poet Iris McCloughan who is also credited with dramaturgy and was an #LMCCArtsCenter artist-in-residence during the 2021 session two.
In her piece, Eiko wears her mother’s slip and a pair of raincoats that belonged to Sam Miller, who, among other things, was the director of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and president of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Miller, who died in 2018, had a long friendship with Eiko and helped to conceive the duet project.
