I haven’t introduced myself in awhile and I have new headshots, so I wanted to take a moment to say hi and tell you a little about my background. I have wanted to be a physician since I was 5. My first introduction to dermatology was when I searched for a doctor who could help me with the scars that were left on my face after getting the chicken pox at the age of 18. I completed 4 years of premed as an undergrad at UCLA. I then took 2 years off to do research in pediatric pain. As a native Californian (I grew up in THE Valley), I was thrown into 5 very intense winters in upstate New York, where I completed 4 years of medical school and an intern year in internal medicine at Albany Medical College. (I can literally tell my grandchildren that I used to walk to school in the snow, uphill, both ways 😂) After this, I made my way back to California and did 2 years of dermatology research at UC Irvine. One of my favorite projects was working on the first study evaluating the Fraxel Repair for acne scars. I ended up staying at UC Irvine to complete 3 years of dermatology residency. After passing the board exam, I was officially a board certified dermatologist. Many dermatologists begin practicing at this stage. My passion was in aesthetic and surgical dermatology so I pursued additional training. My first fellowship was in laser & cosmetic dermatology at Harvard Medical School @mghlaserandcosmetic with Drs. Rox Anderson and Mathew Avram. Dr Anderson invented many of the device technologies we use today - Fraxel, tattoo removal, laser hair removal, & coolsculpting - just to name a few. My second fellowship was in Mohs Micrographic surgery at UC San Diego. I stayed at UCSD to start the cosmetic center and have been the Director of Laser & Cosmetics for the past 8 years now. Wow, time flies. My favorite part of my job is making people feel more self-confident with subtle improvements in their appearance (although, sometimes quite dramatic improvements).
