Making of the Memento Mori display pt. 2 While I was working on sculpting and molding the teeth, super talented @carlosbeastart cast and seamed all 4 skull heads and mandibles. The jaws were solid but the heads were all slushcast perfectly by Carlos so they were light and when ground away they looked like a real hollow skull. Afterword, I got to painting the skulls while Carlos was casting the teeth in smooth cast 325 to give them a little bit of translucency. The chrome teeth were cast in opaque plastic though since they didn’t need translucency. 3 sets of teeth (almost 100 teeth!) were all ground, sanded, primed and put on a stand to be given to the amazing @sickotheclown to silver nitrate chrome. The bottom of one skull got carved away and upholstered (by the lovely @tiannamercedes) to become a wearable skull, the lightest colored and more naturalistic one. That one get magnets in the molars to keep the jaw closed while still being able to take the jaw completely off. The phrenology skull though got springs to make it look like a medical skull. Both of these are seen in the test videos. The beautiful handwriting on the phrenology skull is courtesy of the wonderful @quirkymonster. And with all the finishing work completed all the skulls went on a wooden base that I made and the piece was done! Thank you everyone who helped on the piece, I’m incredibly grateful to have so much talent on the project! So happy to be able to make art with my talented friends.
