Oh hey everyone, I’m Alice 💘 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m 35 and a Lettering Artist but I also make banners, inspired by peace campaigning, social justice movements and old secret societies within the U.K. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I run Modern Calligraphy classes in East London, and very occasionally Banner Making classes too. I really love sharing what I do, I think I have a very special job ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love visiting radical book stores. My favourite books recently have been ‘Out of the Darkness’ about Greenham Common Peace Camp, and ‘Let the Record Show’ about the Act Up movement by Sarah Schulman. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I cope with living through climate collapse by learning as much as I can about protest movements, and putting pressure on governments and corporations/highlighting their nonsense through Non-Violent Direct Action. It feels good to be part of some sort of resistance even if ‘change’ or ‘results’ is hard to quantify most of the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite voluntary role is ‘Police Station Support’, waiting for activists outside my local police stations when they are released from custody and making sure they can get home safe and are fed and watered. You can volunteer for this through various groups, @gbclegal do call-outs on their stories and @pal_action have sign-up sheets on their website. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But also I love second-hand/handmade knitwear and dancing and hanging out with my friends at @gardenearthlydelights , gardening, starting fires and comparing bird/bat sightings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nice to meet you x
