Is photography dead on Instagram? Fuck no! Good content is good content, no matter what medium it's in, and there are ways you can make your photo posts more interesting. In the next few weeks, I'm going to give you some tips on how to tell a better story with photos. Tip #1 is some very basic photography know-how: Open a window (or door) When photographing anything, whether that be portraits, food, wine, *or whatever*, lighting is critical. The easiest thing you can do is find a door you can open or a window to place your subject by. Most wineries are really great for this since barrel rooms and production facilities have those huge roll-up doors to let in all kinds of gorgeous light! I most often place my subject just to the side of my source of light, but it's good to move around your subject too to see what kinds of interesting images you can get, like silhouettes! *IMPORTANT NOTE* turn off all other lights in the room you are in and ensure you are only using the light from the open door or windows; otherwise, you'll have conflicting colors. We'll talk more about this in future posts! Scroll through these images to see ways I've used open doors and windows to show off my subjects in the *best light* (pun VERY much intended), and keep checking back for more tips!
