this week i have cried so many times for so many different reasons. mostly gratitude. here’s a few things that have moved me to tears: - i built an album of spell songs with @thebengsons (with loving help from @ersicala and @iankagey) to accompany the book Fables and Spells and the first single is out today. they have gently let me remember my voice and i am so grateful!! - @trevornoah gave a verbal love note to us and every Black woman i know has been sending it around, saying “this”. - imagining BG and her wife’s first hug - i only receive gifts i cannot open alone, and this week building the SOLD OUT To Feel A Thing: Ritual for Emergence with The Fire Ensemble, led by @troyanthonymusic at @theshedny, directed by @interstellartendencies3000 and @alexandriawailesofficial has felt like finally getting to see and hear and understand what was gifted - we have covered each other’s backs, caught each other’s grief, questioned our purpose and meaning, applauded each other’s sangin, and we are learning how the text is spoken through the body, and how the meaning of things grows when it is truly shared by the choir. i am learning to be in the choir.
