⚠️What is lymphoma?
Lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system.
It affects white blood cells known as lymphocytes that helps us fight infection.
⚠️There are 2 main types of lymphoma : Hodgkin’s snd Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). The main difference is that Hodgkin’s lymphoma causes the development of abnormal cells called Reed Sternberg cells. Treatment is different depending on the type.
Both can cause childhood cancers, as well as cancers in adulthood.
2100 cases of Hodgkin’s lymphoma are diagnosed each year, commonly between 20-40 years or over 70 years
14200 cases of NHL are diagnosed each year, and your chances of developing this condition increase as your age increases.
⚠️The abnormal cells can travel around the lymphatic system and start to build up in lymph nodes causing the to enlarge. They can also collect in you lungs, liver and spleen.
⚠️Symptoms of lymphoma include:
➡️Extreme tiredness for no reason
➡️Losing weight unintentionally (more than 10% of body weight over 6 months)
➡️Itching for no reason
➡️Lump in the neck, armpit, groin (often painless swelling of lymph glands)
↘️Night sweats and or fever
➡️Persistent cough or breathlessness
