A visual interpretation of “Clair de Lune”, a piano piece by Claude Debussy, third movement of his Suite bergamasque, L. 75 (1905), inspired by the Paul Verlaine poem. // Now available on @superrare.co // Created for @0x_society Côte to Coast exhibition. Knowing that a poem inspired this composition, I wanted to explore the relationship that exists between different arts, and see how Clair De Lune would influence my photography. Photographing the landscape with this song playing made me less concerned about the details and realistic depiction of the nature I had in front of me. Instead, I focused on the light, shadow, and subtle colours, and textures, jut like Clair de Lune explores subtle contrasts of timbre, texture, and harmonies. Clair De lune or ‘’Moonlight’’ influenced me to create a moonlit scene. The wildflowers catching the light in the foreground helped create a balance and link the foreground to the moon in the background, mirroring the beginning and end of the song, separated but related. With this piece, I wanted to create a visual interpretation of all the reflective and thought provoking sentiment I felt listening to Clair De Lune while being in the wilderness & behind the computer assembling all the elements together. I want the piece itself to be a journey through one’s personal emotions.
