I had the awesome joy of going to see Viola Davis in the awesome and fantastic movie,”The Woman King”. Seriously, this was one of the best movies I think I’ve ever seen as told by women that look like me. I have seen Viola Davis and many movies, but this one was incredible!! It was everything seeing black women and when I say black women I mean women who are of dark skin on the screen radiating such beauty such strength such dignity power and authority. It was magnificent! For so many years our stories have been told by others but to have our own voices be heard through this amazing cast and movie as of the most empowering moments in my life. Some have criticized Viola Davis but all I have for her is praise. She and this beautiful cast of women and a man is just everything to me. I feel a shift. If you think of yourself as a slave then that is what you will be. I am nobodies slave. I am beneath no one king or queen, president or vice president, billionaire or Movistar. I am beneath no one. I am that I am by the grace of God. I want to thank all of the actors, producers, costume designers, Technical people, and everyone else that helped bring this movie to life. Please know that you are touching the lives of so many people and giving us a different view and telling us a different story that is empowering us on a level that I can’t even begin to express.
