I’ve always maintained that jazz (not to be confused with “jazz styling”) as a living and breathing art form is the most informed way to understand rhythm, harmony, and melody. My own understanding of other genres - classical, pop, rock, blues, gospel, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Brasilian, musical theatre, rap [I keep telling y’all I got BARS], etc... have all been deeper because of the root concepts of jazz.
