What is the advantage of Hasselblad’s unique colour combination, HNCS? See it in the process of post-production – through the eyes of photographer Melina Leibbrand (@tamedstudios). In this series we will take a look at the editing process Melina undergoes when she uses the Hasselblad X1D II 50C on her shoots – and even with putting her signature look on the image, it isn’t too different from the raw shot! 1: Basic settings – “I slightly boosted contrast and lifted up the lights and shadows a little bit for more punch. Apart from that I’ve pulled down saturation and lifted clarity a few points.” 2: Gradation curve & colour grading – “I started harmonizing the whites by slightly pulling down the curve and lifted blacks a bit. Regarding RGB I’ve performed my classical color adjustments and added some blueish shadows and pearly highlights.” 3: Color correction – “In the last step I’ve turned the red tones to be a little more orange and slightly kicked the blue tones towards purple. After having saturated yellow and green, I heavily reduced the luminance of blue to boost the skyscrapers in the background. Lastly, I’ve added some brush strokes of clarity to enhance certain parts of the buildings.” And that’s the final image!
