Here’s a rough edit of my thesis show I did when I was a senior at Intelochen boarding school. I was looking through my computer and saw this very rough video of the piece, looking back on it I’m not sure what I think about the makeups or production but after all I was 17 and this was a piece that I put a lot of work into, plus I had a lot of fun while making it. Going to a school that was know for the students making fairly traditional art, I wanted to do something very unique and extreme, something that no other student has done before and I feel like I achieved that for better or worse. The concept was a dark church ceremony, hosted by a demonic priest and nun and attended by cult-like mask wearing families. All my work at interlochen was looking back on my relationship with organized religion growing up in Mississippi. Critiquing it but mostly working through the questions, anxieties, and uncertainties that it gave me. I did the majority of the work myself from the makeups and masks to the garments that everyone is wearing to the complete set. The actors and live organist who were in the piece really made it come alive, so thank you everyone who helped out and please tag yourself if I’ve forgotten.
