I’ve been struggling with the concept of what it means to do a body issue ever since it was pitched in our brainstorming meeting. Growing up, we did not have the tools necessary to discuss body insecurities. And as a person who has been regarded as “tiny” for most of my life, man, was I completely caught off guard by the emotional toll I put myself through when parts of myself started to adjust and change and no longer fit that descriptor. Body confidence is not putting on a tiny, skin-tight dress or wearing a thong bikini because headlines are screaming “wear the damn thing!” It’s about each individual’s comfort. It’s about owning your own narrative and checking those who feel the need to define it for you. I’m envious of younger generations growing up with stars like @msmelanielynskey who are finally getting their main character moment. She is not here to bs you into any false idea of what body positivity should be — and she also happens to be the kindest person I’ve ever met. She owned the hell out of each and every one of the looks for this shoot and I’m so happy I got to be a witness to it.
