The rarest wave I ever rode in my life. This swell formed huge near NZ, went XXL in Tahiti, and kept its strength, interval, and angle to perfectly working its way into Ma'alaea, the smallest window you can imagine. Passing just west of Hawai'i and Maui and between Molokini and Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, just a few degrees off angle, it's flat. The elements were crazy, and the excitement was at an all-time high. Nuking offshore winds pelting and blinding to the eyes, intense desert sun with walls of sets stacked up to the horizon you could see minutes away, threading between the islands approaching from blue to light green to red. During one massive set, my focus began to hallucinate, watching this beast of a wave recede and pitch into a Mach One enormous moving tunnel as 11 million wind ripples fluttered up the face turning from brown to red, purple-indigo in the psychedelic evening light. The second of two times I have been able to ride this wave in 17 years. A lifetime experience and a precious tube for me. Photo @juliareshke
