It’s a(nother) girl: Wendi has just welcomed her third baby, Wimbi! As has become a time-honoured tradition among our ex-orphans, Wendi paraded her new addition over to Ithumba within hours of giving birth, so she could celebrate her growing family with the men who raised her. Wimbi makes three daughters for Wendi, following in the footsteps of Wiva (born 2017) and Wema (2019). You can see the full family together in the final slide. Wimbi is the 51st known calf born to an orphaned elephant we rescued, raised, and reintegrated back into the wild. We will share more from this special moment in the coming days.
