Engawa, 2020. (work in progress) w/ @__brimarie__ Last winter, bri and I decided to build a freestanding porch on the burned-out foundation of a cow barn at her parents place upstate. On July 4th we broke ground. It was a tangled mess of buried garbage and rotting steel. We saved what we could, scrapped the rest, and got stung by a lot of wasps. The neighbors helped us celebrate with fireworks. All summer we escaped isolation, building our own universe from scratch. As fall fell, we were flying up the Palisades Parkway in a C&C cargo van at midnight. All the windows down, our steel and plywood erectors set rattling in the back.
