Often times when Pride comes along, we bask in the joys of specific representation, expression and freedom to be, while we forget the very people that gave us the right and fought for us to have Pride. These are the very bodies who are under attack at this very moment. In countries such as Zimbabwe, where I was born and raised, trans* bodies are denied access to basic human rights such as health care, access to medication, housing security and finances to survive. Many trans* bodies in Germany face the same reality. It’s time to show up for your trans* siblings this Pride by uplifting trans* bodies in your communities, and by shining a light on those who are less advantaged and more marginalized than you. Equality is a fight that is ongoing, and action must be taken, in love, care, mutual aid and putting our money where our mouth is. This can be done through supporting donations, fundraisers and organizations that spotlight and assist in the battles trans* bodies face daily.
