Posted from • @jacs_do_it What I learned from working on the maiden issue of @voguephilippines : To be honest, I grew up somewhat disenfranchised with the world of fashion. I am someone who, even as a child, was set on his ways and I know my interests and energies were not focused on runways, designers, seasons, and trends. As I started to build my career as a writer and editor, my respect grew for the industry and the wonderful creatives within it. Still, even after working for several fashion titles in the past, I would never claim to be an expert. (Fact: I worked as the de facto fashion editor for a lifestyle title for a couple of months. I shit you not.) But for all those magazines, I knew my role, I knew my gifts and I knew what I brought to the table. I am no pundit. To call me one would be a disservice to the brilliance of those who actually are. When the opportunity to be part of Vogue PH came along, I accepted the challenge with a curious, open heart, but a nervous disposition. Should my name be under one of the most known and revered fashion publications in the world? I am no expert, I am no pundit. Thankfully, I came to realize that the world of runways, designers, seasons, and trends is not how my younger self imagined it. In the here and now, caring about what you put on your body looks different on everyone, and that’s okay. While I may not be the most “polished” person I know, I am happy that the spectrum of global style is wider that it has ever been. My comfortable sneakers, local threads, and wild devil-may-care ‘do can stand side-by-side big brands and haute couture. And this happy reality is reflected in the tireless people I’ve worked with in the many months leading to our epic 422-page inaugural, in reading and re-reading through the stories we weaved and in the images we painstakingly produced. I believe that’s what we’re trying to tell the world. The landscape isn’t some impenetrable clique or a rigid cookie cutter. It is not a “they,” it is every single one of us.
