People around the world have been paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth after her death on Thursday.
A massive crowd gathered outside Buckingham Palace in London, with many laying flowers outside the gates.
A collection of flowers also started to grow outside Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where the Queen died at 96.
World leaders released statements about her influence.
U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss said the country was “devasted” by the monarch’s death, calling her “the rock on which modern Britain was built.”
A tearful Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described the Queen as “thoughtful, wise, curious, helpful, funny and so much more.
“She was one of my favourite people in the world, and I will miss her so,” Trudeau said.
U.S. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden said in a statement that the Queen was “more than a monarch” and that “she defined an era.”
Music legend Elton John tweeted, “Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.”
Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones tweeted, “For my whole life Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there. In my childhood I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV. I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much beloved grandmother of the nation.”
A telegram from Pope Francis to King Charles honoured the Queen’s decades of service to Britain and the Commonwealth.
The palace announced Thursday morning that the Queen was under medical supervision in Balmoral, Scotland. Her death was announced a few hours later.
