#tbt to Philadelphia in 2014! The City of Philadelphia invited me to their Mural Art Program. The images visualize the becoming of the art work, starting with sketches on analogue photos ending with the final work "Psychlustro". By working in a public space I was working alongside Grafitti naturally and I think Graffiti is a very interesting visual ingredient of our urban life and it has been for some time. Though, if you compare my art work to Grafitti I’m not writing, which is one big difference, and a lot of graffiti writers do. It’s just doing something that you can do with a very fine pencil, but on a very big scale. Spray is not like a pencil—at least for me it’s not. I admire a lot of graffiti artists, but what I admire more about spray is that it can be unleashed. It’s like a natural phenomenon to me. @muralarts #Grafitti #Katharinagrossearchive _____ Image 1,2,5 Skteches on analogue photos for psychlustro ©Katharina Grosse and VG Bild-Kunst, 2022 Image 3 Katharina Grosse Psychylustro - The Warehouse, 2014 Acrylic on wall, floor, and various objects Philadelphia, City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program © Katharina Grosse and VG Bild-Kunst Bonn, 2022 / Photo: Steve Weinik for City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program Image 6 Katharina Grosse after painting in the subway of Philadelphia ©Katharina Grosse and VG Bild-Kunst, 2022
