RIP Sam Moore... I had the incredible honor of playing bass for him on many shows in my 20’s when I toured with Gary Lewis and The Playboys.. It was the ultimate in rock and roll education.. I have so many memories of playing with him.. A few that stand out were playing in my hometown of Cleveland at Blossom Music Center in 1994 when I was 23, a hallowed stage I grew up watching my favorite bands on.. A cruise when we sat around a table by the pool and legendary producer Tom Dowd shared unbelievable stories for hours, and in 1996 at a nearly sold-out Georgia Dome in Atlanta.. We opened with this song and I’ll never forget that ear to ear smile of his as we played the intro.. He was a true legend who absolutely owned a stage.. So many great songs.. “Soul Man”, “Hold On, I’m Comin’”, and “I Thank You” to name a few.. He was always so wonderfully kind and sweet to me.. Sing with the angels, Sam.. ❤️
