Each image is a still time-lapse; compiled from thousands of photographs with subjects individually selected or omitted, and functioning as a documentation of an hour or two in that location. “The purpose of time is to keep everything from happening at once. Every time a picture is taken it instantly recedes into the past and sooner or later, depicts something that no longer exists or is dead.”
