King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla stopped to look at the growing memorial and tributes outside Buckingham Palace Friday, a day after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Hundred of bouquets have been placed at the palace gates, including many with handwritten notes personally thanking the Queen for 70 years of service. Others remembered a monarch who many viewed as a grandmother figure. “I always grew up with the Queen, and she felt very close to me,” said Linda Mauer, 55, who came to pay her respects. A period of royal mourning begins today and will extend until seven days after the royal funeral.
