For Aji Styawan, one of our 2022 Photographers of the Year, climate change has taken hold in his backyard—literally. Living nine miles from the coastline in Java, Indonesia, Styawan has made it his mission to tell the stories of climate change that he sees on a daily basis. “People have to understand,” he says. “If this is happening anywhere, it’s a big, big problem to everyone.” 📸 @ajistyawan On a low coastal land in the province of Central Java, villagers from Timbulsloko prepare to add mud to their cemetery to raise it above the high tide line.
