I would not be here without the bravery of a 15 year old boy who climbed into the trunk of a car and came to a country that he didn’t know but that promised him a new start and where anything seemed to be possible. The pride I have that I am lucky enough to be Xicana in this lifetime is immeasurable. I am tired. I am exhausted from 26 years of having to fight harder than my white counterparts. Of seeing an immigration truck and feeling fear. Of ignorance and misplaced hate. This is not a new fight, this is something that Latine people and immigrants of all ethnicities have been living with for decades, it is not a trend for you to make cute little posters for, or a hashtag for you to use to make yourself blend in. I am glad that people are starting to wake up to the injustice that has been around them this whole time, but I wonder why us screaming about it for lifetimes prior to this fell on deaf ears. Thank you for joining the fight, but I ask that you dig deep inside and figure out why it took you so long. Échale ganas.
