When is your kid actually going to learn how to read? 📚 There are products out there that’ll tell you your baby can learn, but they can’t! In most cases, kids will learn sometime between first and third grade.
This graph shows the evolution of reading skills based on a study of a cohort of students who were in kindergarten in 1998. By the third grade, nearly all the children could read somewhat fluently, and a good share are starting to be able to understand what they read better.
As for teaching methods, phonics-based reading instruction is best supported by evidence. I highly recommend checking out the podcast Sold a Story, which dives into "how teaching kids to read went so wrong."
