Yesterday My city earned a huge win! for the first time in history, @tarblooderfb had the perfect season, 15-0, and won 26-6 in the State Championship game! Congratulations to the 🐐himself @coachginn and congrats to all the players, staff, and especially to the parents for all they do to support their child. This win is very special to me because I grew up in this community and I’ve coached several kids on this team, so I know all it took to achieve this! Here’s my issue, the enrollment rate is low in the Cleveland Public schools which results in less funding, less exposure and places them in a smaller division. For those that are arguing the validity of this win, first, ask yourself what school district do you have your children in? The misconception that children attending inner-city public schools result in a less successful career is FALSE! I know grown people who went to great academic schools, graduated top of their class in high school and college, and struggle to make money. I know grown people that went to the best academic schools and dropped out of college. I also know a bunch of people who went to poor schools and make more money than all of us! The location of the schools doesn’t matter as much as rather or not the school supports who the child is and what they want to become. If your child is into arts, send them to a school of arts. If your child is into sports, send them to a school that has great athletics and coaches. (FYI, great coaches include what they teach the child outside of sports). If your child is into business, send them to a school that offers business programs. Do research on things outside of the visible neighborhood! Give your kid the best chance at being who they want to be. If they fail, they fail. Failing is part of the process. Support them anyway! We fail all the time and we are still here to figure it out! I want to encourage more parents to change their thinking when it comes to school in general. This is my opinion based on my personal experiences as a student, Coach, and parent! I’d love to have an open discussion below.
