did you know when we ‘finish’ a piece in the shop it’s actually far from being done? When the work comes off the pipe (around 950 degrees) it’s either given a quick fire polish or put straight inside of an annealer (a big box/front loading oven) set at 900 degrees. Annealing means gradually cooling the glass down to room temperature. The annealer we use runs overnight on a computer program set for a duration of time that’s dependent upon the size and weight of what we made. Properly annealing your work is imperative because glass gets stressed if it becomes cold too quickly (same.) So stressed glass means cracks and that’s just NOT what we’re here for. As much as we’d love to closely examine the finish product immediately- we have to be patient and wait. And then pray that we remembered to flip the switch to ON 🫣 . . . . #sunsideandco #handmadeonly #glassblowing #glassfactory #handblownglass #handblownglass #glassfacts #designtips #annealing #didyouknow
