Born in New Zealand and moving to Hong Kong at the age of two, Wai Ki has grown up in a place with vast cultural diversity, which has provided her the opportunity of being exposed to different heritages and learning to embrace them all. Fluent in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, Wai Ki started playing volleyball at 9-years-old, and she joined different competitions for the sport up until her college years. With her father working as an interior designer, Wai Ki has been immersed in the art and design environment ever since birth. Even in primary school, her hobbies included calligraphy, sculpture, and mural painting. For her, art is a way to express emotions and messages. During high school, she dove deeper into art and explored different media, such as charcoal, acrylic, and watercolor, to express her thoughts. After graduation, she decided to explore art in the form of fashion in university, fulfilling a lifelong dream. As a design student, she loves to explore different possibilities in style, believing in “less is more" and presenting beauty in the most effortless ways. Her favorite designers are Alexander McQueen and Martin Margiela, due to their passion behind reflecting emotions or social issues behind collections, as well as the creativity of transforming unexpected daily items into fashion. Though immersed in the industry's education, Wai Ki had only dabbled with being a model when she was little. While at university, her volleyball teammate, a model at Elite Hong Kong, encouraged her to pursue the career further. At first, she joined out of curiosity towards what the fashion world be like from a model’s perspective. Today, however, she uses it as a conduit for self-reflection and self-exploration, in order to understand more about herself and her style. She believes modeling to be a way of bringing imagination to reality, a unique transformation that few careers can manifest.
