This week's #EcoLoves spotlights Ancuta Sarca, the Romanian accessories designer taking upcycling mainstream.
With rising pressure on Earth’s virgin resources, a new wave of fashion innovators are reimagining waste materials. At the helm is @ancutasarca, whose trainer-heel hybrids are a mash-up of reclaimed footwear. 👟 👠
After graduating from BA and MA Fashion Design in her home country Romania, the designer relocated to London. Inspired by her existing collection of trainers and kitten heels - many broken or over-worn - she began a mission to push the boundaries of her pre-loved footwear into new territory. By 2019 the project had developed into her namesake brand, debuting under SS20’s @fashion_east presentation with a collection of spliced sneaker-mules.
Now stocked by major fashion retailers, Sarca is disrupting the luxury space with her sustainable approach. Sourcing secondhand and deadstock Nikes, kitten heels, and fabrics, the designer opts for solely reclaimed resources in a bid to keep her process sustainable. ♻️
“With all the problems that are going on in the world at the moment, I think that fashion needs creative people who will re-use what is already out there instead of creating more and more” the designer told Dazed.
Catch Ancuta Sarca’s upcoming presentation with NEWGEN on 19th September.
