SPOILER! In this post. It’s the One Year Anniversary of MALIGNANT this weekend, so I thought I would share some behind the scenes. Here is the “horror glam squad” working on @annabellewallis, who is the greatest of sports for diving into such an unglamorous role. She embodied Madison perfectly with such vulnerability and manic darkness. And is truly one of the sweetest and funniest people I’ve ever had the good fortune to work with. There were many stages of practical make-up effects to bring Gabriel to life, and this was a simpler but yet highly articulated remote-control animatronic that Annabelle could wear. I’ll share the more complex ones down the line at some stage. It was my first time working with @spectralmotion, @thespiritcabinet @mikeelizalde @mark_setrakian and @norman_cabrera_monsters, all of whom I’ve been dying to work with for a long time, and was ecstatic to get that opportunity to do so with this film. And I love them all to bits! ILM did tons of amazing work to bring Gabriel to life too, which I’ll dive into some day — it truly took a while village. Don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to do something as freewheeling and uninhibitedly fun as this movie again, but I’m glad I could add this to my body of work.
