“I hope I can put into words just what an amazing soul my boy Eric has. I would not have come out of the last 10 months the person I am without him. June last year I picked up a virus (seronegative hepatitis) and within three weeks I needed an emergency liver transplant. Thanks to my donor, donor family and the amazing team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham I am alive today. I live on my own and as I am now classed as CEV I have been shielding since being discharged from hospital. It has been quite difficult at times to get my head around everything that has happened and although I get plenty of doorstep visits from friends and family, once that door shuts I am alone. But this is when Superdog Eric comes into his own... His life changed overnight, from having a great active life, doggy daycare, long walks, swimming, and playing on the field to suddenly living with someone who was quite poorly and unable to walk him or even play with him properly. Thankfully my friends came to the rescue again to take him out for walks but I knew he was still missing out on so much of his old life. Despite him having to adapt to this new way of living his sunny disposition never wavered and he has been by my side every step of the way through my recovery. It still amazes me how he instinctively knew at the time that I wasn't well and became so gentle and patient spending most of his time sitting next to me for cuddles or just simply resting on my lap, no longer dropping a ball at my feet for fetch or mithering for treats, which for a labrador is a miracle in itself 😊. For the last 10 months, he has been my world, my only companion, my only physical contact with a living being, my confidant and he has been with me through my darkest moments and eased the pain of the loneliness I've felt at times. He makes me laugh each day with his antics and we now walk for miles together, he makes my world a beautiful place.” A perfect way to describe the impact our animal family has on our world - they truly do make it a more beautiful place.
