Honoured to announce that I’ve been nominated for an award by the Canadian Society of Cinematographers for a CSC award in the Non-Theatrical feature category for my first feature film “The Family”. 🏅
This film was a massive undertaking and I learned so much throughout the process of shooting it. It truly takes a village of hard working, passionate (and often sleep deprived) creative individuals to make an independent film.
There’s so many people to thank, but I’d like to start off with our director, producer, writer and fearless leader @westanddan and our producer, pm, co-writer extraordinaire @_adam_booth_ for believing in me and for bringing me on board.
It’s notoriously hard to land a first feature. Going into this film I had experience in shooting 2nd unit on a TV series and had shot a handful of short films, commercials and music videos leading up to this, but it still wasn’t enough. However both Dan and Adam pushed for me relentlessly and were committed on doing this film together. I’m eternally grateful for their support, collaboration and for the memories we made working on this film together.
Being a lower budget film and shooting 1.5h out of the city in the first wave of the pandemic (with crew commuting in and out everyday), it wasn’t an easy ask for my crew. We shot in the middle of fall with some of the craziest weather I’ve ever experienced, with a revolving set of some key crew coming on and off our film between other projects which I would brief every few days. We would go from full sunshine, to 50km winds, to flash thunderstorms all within the same day. This added to the challenge of keeping the look of the film consistent throughout - but I wanted to give a massive thank you to all the techs who stepped in to fill in and to my core team who persevered through an intense 19 day shoot.
This film wouldn’t have been possible without the support and hard work from my camera team, my lighting and grip team as well as the amazing post production team in helping us look good. Full credits to come!
Shot on the original Sony Venice on a rehoused set of Kowa Anamorphic lenses - but more to come on all that technical stuff later 🤙🏼
