on the 28th of July, I was honored to have been selected to perform at @beyonce release party for her album RENAISSANCE representing the Berlin ballroom scene. The evening was curated by @s.o.l.d.s // @so.ambrosia. I’m so grateful to have been a part of this but I wanted to give a little perspective about this night and how hard it was to get through. I arrived at the venue pretty late, due to forgetting my outfit at home and travelling 40min back. I had to get ready quickly, rushing some things that I should have taken time doing, such as pinning my hair. I walked out and one minute into my LSS, my corset started falling because it wasn’t tied well, and the straps on my heel started coming off, making my foot pretty loose. My rings got caught in my hair, and after my second dip, one of my ponytails flew into the audience. I finished the LSS, and went back up the stairs, and decided to do one more dip, but I slipped on the floor and fell face flat. I ran backstage and cried, feeling so defeated and embarrassed. I felt like a mess. It was an event for @beyonce where I wanted to show myself in the best light, and my messy ass couldn’t keep my wig on. @s.o.l.d.s held me and reminded me that we had a whole night left to work, and that these moments dont define you as a performer. I went back out and had a better night, but I still couldn’t shake that initial feeling of disappointment. It’s crazy how your perception of things differs from reality, because the performance i hated so much has become one of the best opportunities i’ve had this year. This night has spiraled into @beyonce, @parkwood @columbia_de @sonymusicde picking up footage taken at the ball and featuring me in the official promotional material for her album turning a moment I was unsure about into something so special. My face has been used as a thumbnail on the official YouTube video, my voice was used on promotional material used by her team, and I was able to have my 3rd feature in @voguegermany As people we tend to beat ourselves up more than we need to when we fail but sometimes the worst moments can turn into something unimaginable. 👗: @melisaminca // @aoifeadoleakue (cont. in comments)
