When adults use baby talk, it’s because they think children’s inability to physically form words in the early years, is a reflection of intelligence. It is not. They understand far more than their mouths are initially able to produce. If you dumb down your language, you dumb down their future language. Young Children’s brains have a higher capacity to absorb language, multiple languages, without an accent than adults. Rich language is a foundational part of literacy and communication. Don’t underestimate your child’s brain simply because they can’t pronounce the words perfectly... yet.
