This Nova Scotia farmer worries proposed new zoning laws could drive her family's farm out of business.
.
Elizabeth Crowe and her family run a dairy farm in Burntcoat.
.
Much of their land — and many others along the Minas Basin — would become agricultural reserve under the proposed designation.
.
The Municipality of East Hants says the new laws would protect the lands for years to come by restricting their use to farming only.
.
It would also allow only those engaged in the agricultural activities to build any homes or new structures on the land.
.
But Crowe says the designation would dramatically cut the value of her family's land.
.
She estimates it would drop it to $1,500 per 0.4 hectares from $15,000.
.
Warden Eleanor Roulston says she's been hearing people's concerns loud and clear.
.
"I can't say what the outcome will be. I can say we're listening to everything," Roulston said.
