Is this Jose Bolanos visiting Marilyn’s crypt? Bolanos (1930-1995) was a Mexican screenwriter/director. It’s reported that upon Marilyn’s visit to Mexico in 1962, he sent flowers to Marilyn’s publicist Pat Newcomb requesting a chance to meet the film star. He was Marilyn’s date to the 1962 Golden Globes in March that same year. There is definitely a resemblance to the man at her crypt. (See photos 2 and 3.) After her death, Bolanos claimed the two had planned to be married. Note: Jose Bolanos is not listed in either of Marilyn’s 1962 phone books that I own. So is it REALLY Bolanos in the photo? Photo 4 shows the same day, same man, yet Ralph Greenson (Marilyn’s psychiatrist), is now seen as well. The flower arrangements indicate these photos were taken on August 8, 1962, the date of Marilyn Monroe’s funeral. There is no record of him attending the funeral. He wasn’t invited, and he lived in Mexico. Of the many photos taken of the funeral that day, he’s not seen in any of them. It’s possible that the cemetery was opened to the public following the service, and he came in later, but would Greenson still be there at that time? Some suspect it’s Danny Greenson, the son Ralph Greenson. Photo 5 shows the entire Greenson family (Danny, Hildi, Ralph and Joanie) standing just outside the chapel in which Marilyn’s funeral was held on August 8. Some say it could be Marilyn’s driver, Rudy Kautsky. He’s circled in photo 6. Rudy was employed by the Carey Cadillac Renting Company. Owned by the Marilyn Monroe Collection today are several receipts from Carey Cadillac from February, May and June, 1962, including Marilyn’s final day of shooting on “Something’s Got To Give” on June 1, which was also her birthday. See the receipt in photo 7. Photo 8 shows Marilyn in the back of her limousine on that day, driven by Rudy. Danny and Rudy both attended the funeral and are seen in several photos from that day. Update: @marilynmexico has shared with me a newspaper article verifying this is indeed Balanos. However, it's the week AFTER her funeral. See my latest post for details.
