Let me give you a glimpse of pre-revolution Iran. Seems like many are unaware, my country was the home of trendsetters, the definition of luxury, advanced in science and medicine just like any leading western country at that time. Our Queen was a style icon, our land rich and beautiful. We come from a line of resilient educated strong women, who once were living FREELY, dressing however they pleased. Until 1979 when the Shah was overthrown and a dictator by the name of Ayatollah Khomeini “won” the revolution and elected himself as the President of the now Islamic Republic of Iran. That’s when these barbaric animals took charge of our country, to exploit it and to stop the once so forward thinking and powerful force of Iran. That’s when the tragedy began. Overnight women lost all their rights. Imagine that. The people of Iran did not want to accept that, my parents amongst so many others started protesting, until one day they were captured. My dad was thrown in a car with a sack over his head, then thrown in a cell, where they kept all the men that were against the regime, to torture them and to eventually line them up to be shot in the head. After 3 days by a miracle my father escaped. And that’s how we became refugees, that’s why so many Persians left Iran and started a life overseas. My Father has not been able to return to his home. Today you hear of these brave women like Mahsa and Hadis losing their lives, STILL PROTESTING, those are just two examples of the many lives that have been lost since ‘79 in the fight of regaining freedom.
