Here’s a little story about this beautiful magical town called Scopello. It’s special to me not just because we got married here, but there’s a backstory to it. In 2015 I went to visit family in Sicily, and my cousin Agostino took me Scopello for the first time. It was so charming, I loved it, but never did I imagine I would get married there. A couple years later, Matt & I started talking more seriously about us getting married. Whenever I would ask Matt when he'd propose, he would jokingly say “why don’t you propose?” Well, he said it enough times that I wanted to teach him a lesson and actually propose to him. So proposing to Matt became now my plan. Then, things shifted a bit when I started chemo treatments in January 2018. Matt and I had talked about taking a celebratory trip to Sicily once my treatments were over, so I thought “perfect....we’ll go to Scopello, and right in that middle area (3rd image) by the tree is where I’ll get down on one knee and propose!” I even had my outfit in mind. With my short hair, I was going to pair it with black pants, a white rolled up sleeve and black suspenders. It was going to be an epic proposal. Since I had a plan, I went to my dad to ask his opinion. Now, keep in mind, my dad is game & supportive for EVERY idea ever of mine. I tell my dad my plan about proposing to Matt, and he goes “you know, I don’t think it’s a good idea” I was actually in shock. It was so out of character for him to not like my idea 😂He was advising I don’t, but I thought it’d be the funniest story ever. Regardless, I was still going to propose in the summer. In May, Matt takes us on a helicopter trip before our date night. Turns out, that was Matt’s proposal! 💍 He’d been planning for months & he even waited for my hair to grow longer because he knew I’d appreciate it for the photos 📷 🥹 So really, my dad had been shutting down my plan because Matt had already asked my dad’s permission to marry me and so my dad was trying to not ruin Matt’s proposal. Long story short, I didn’t get to propose to Matt after all, and teach him a lesson, but what felt truly special is getting married in the town I would’ve proposed if he didn’t beat me to it ❤️
