2022, the year I became vulnerable in the media. In my mind, if I could help one person feel seen or heard, it would be worth it.
I’ve shared my story multiple times, and outreached to thousands of victims. But that didn’t stop the victim shaming or the name calling.
The Egalitarian's Safe Place Project aims to change the culture of the nighttime economy by showing pubs, bars and clubs how to take safety more seriously.
First, we must make change by questioning the actions of perpetrators instead of shaming victims. Victim blaming may seem to be a ‘throwaway comment’, but we need to challenge it. Focusing on victims’ behaviour means as a society, we are accepting that perpetrators are not the ones entirely at fault.
@_theegalitarian needs our opinions and experiences to continue with these projects. By taking part in their current #NightOutSafetySurvey, we can contribute to building a safer and victim-focussed culture on a night out.
The survey takes 5 mins but your opinions will be crucial in shaping future projects The Egalitarian develops.
If you know a victim of spiking, ask them to follow @_theegalitarian and report their experience on their Spike Report. They can access support via their website 💛
