Update to my last post: It IS INDEED Jose Balanos. My good buddy Sergio ( @marilynmexico ) has shared a newspaper clipping that confirms it is Balanos visiting Marilyn’s crypt. The photo caption reads, “Bolanos at Marilyn’s Crypt. Mexican writer Jose Balanos, frequent escort of Marilyn Monroe in the last months of her life, stands at her crypt during visit to Los Angeles Monday. Large vase of flowers is from Joe DiMaggio.” The newspaper is the Daily News, New York’s Picture Newspaper, dated Saturday, August 18, 1962. With the reference to Monday, that would mean Bolanos visited Marilyn’s final resting place on Monday, August 13, over a week after Marilyn’s funeral on August 8. The very interesting question here is why was Greenson there? Did they visit the crypt together? And isn’t it touching there were fresh flowers there from Joe, the week following her funeral? Of course, he did have roses sent to her grave three times a week for 20 years. Thanks Sergio! #marilynmonroe
