Avete mai visto come si restaura un pavimento musivo? In questo video potrete vedere alcune delle fasi più spettacolari del restauro, ancora in corso, della meravigliosa porzione di mosaico della Basilica di San Marco raffigurante una coppia di pavoni. Nelle rappresentazioni cristiane il pavone veniva utilizzato come simbolo di immortalità, in riferimento alla leggenda che le sue carni fossero incorruttibili. E’ proprio questo il significato che Venetian Heritage ha deciso di attribuire a questo progetto di restauro, adottato dopo l’alta marea eccezionale che colpì Venezia durante il mese di novembre del 2019. Thanks to this video, you can see some of the most spectacular phases of the ongoing restoration of a portion of the marvelous mosaic floors representing peacocks in the Basilica of St. Mark. In Christian imaginary, the peacock was a symbol of immortality, owing to the legend that its meat was incorruptible. This is the meaning that Venetian Heritage decided to give to this restoration project adopted after the exceptionally high tide that hit Venice in November 2019.
