“Pride is good” is a term that I for so long wanted to publicly say but never had the courage to accept about myself. If you know me personally, you know that I am openly gay amongst my friends. However, if you know me publicly, you might not know this. I have hidden my sexuality publicly for the past 8 years out of the fear of the outcome — fear of not being accepted. I spent so much time caring about what the outside World would think of me, not realizing that I wasn’t doing what I should be doing. The truth is, I am not the only Middle Eastern girl that’s gay, I’m not the only girl that’s afraid to come out and I’m not the only girl that is afraid of being accepted. The fear of acceptance is a common ground I share with many girls but the opportunity to voice my sexuality with the hopes it might help others is one I have not utilized. So, to all the girls that feel the same way I do, I am sorry it took me so long to vocalize this and be someone that might help you feel comfortable with your sexuality, your journey in accepting yourself and coming out. I want you all to know that I am reading every message you girls are sending and that I hear you. Each and every one of you is inspiring me to be myself publicly for the first time ever. I want to be a voice for those of you that are too afraid to speak up about your sexual preferences.
